TVA & Makapo Paddling Day

Travel Visions Aloha for the Blind is partnering with Makapo Aquatics, Pure Light Racing, and New Hope Canoe Club for an inclusive paddling event on Oʻahu this January. We’re excited to welcome Makapo as they fly in from California to join our community on the water.

This event is built around connection, teamwork, and giving blind and visually impaired participants the chance to paddle in a fully supported environment. Coaches and volunteers will guide each crew in stable double-hull canoes, making it easy for first-time paddlers and experienced paddlers to enjoy the day together. The focus is simple: get on the ocean, build confidence stroke by stroke, and enjoy the experience as a group.

The energy of this partnership creates something special for our athletes—steady guidance on the water, a strong sense of ʻohana, and the chance to learn alongside adaptive paddlers from Hawaiʻi and the mainland. It’s a relaxed, welcoming day where everyone can show up exactly as they are and be part of the crew.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided so participants and volunteers can connect, talk story, and enjoy time together between paddling sessions.

We are diligently working to fill a current funding gap so we can continue offering free, accessible experiences for the blind and visually impaired community. If you’re able, please consider a suggested donation of $20 to help support this event and future programs.
